Strengthening School Sports: DepEd NCR Moves to Institutionalize Sports Clubs in Public Schools
DepEd National Capital Region, through the Education Support Services Division (ESSD), successfully conducted the Regional Orientation-Workshop on the Institutionalization of School Sports Club in Public Schools from September 9–11, 2026, at the Forest Crest Nature Hotel and Resort, Batangas City.
The activity brought together Regional and Division Office officials, Resource Speakers, SGOD Chiefs, School Heads, and Division School Sports – Technical Assistant I from Schools Division Offices of NCR to strengthen their understanding of the policy, implementation mechanisms, planning, monitoring, and sustainability of School Sports Clubs (SSCs).
The opening program was followed by the Welcome Remarks of Joan R. Pedroche, Project Development Officer IV of ESSD, and the presentation of the Workshop Objectives by Kanna Katrina Magdangan, Regional SSD Focal Person – Technical Assistant I of ESSD.
Paulo O. Motita II, Senior Education Program Specialist of BLSS-SSD, led the Policy Orientation and Context Setting, featuring DepEd Order No. 22, s. 2025, and the national and regional directions on sports development. This was followed by an Implementation and Planning Workshop facilitated by Rex A. Ado, SGOD Chief of SDO Mandaluyong City, where participants began translating policy directions into concrete implementation strategies.
On Day 2, Victor M. Javeña, SGOD Chief of SDO Pasig City, facilitated the School Sports Club Action Plan Development, guiding participants in refining their localized action plans, identifying resources, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and developing strategies for effective implementation and sustainability.
The afternoon session on Monitoring, Evaluation, and Sustainability, facilitated by Baltazar M. Gayem, SGOD Chief of SDO Valenzuela City, focused on monitoring mechanisms, safety and risk management, resource mobilization, stakeholder support, and sustaining School Sports Clubs in public schools.
The final day featured the Sharing of Best Practices and Challenges led by Noel T. Balubal, SGOD Chief of SDO Taguig City and Pateros, followed by the presentation of draft Division- and School-Level SSC Action Plans, outputs, and commitments. Participants were given opportunities to exchange experiences, receive feedback, and further strengthen their proposed plans.
Throughout the activity, the Division School Sports – Technical Assistant I from Schools Division Offices served as facilitators, guiding their respective delegations in developing localized SSC Action Plans and translating policy directions into concrete actions at the division and school levels.
Through collaboration, shared learning, and action-oriented planning, DepEd NCR continues to advance the institutionalization of School Sports Clubs toward safe, inclusive, sustainable, and meaningful sports experiences for learners.
