Internet Safety

One of the 5 priorities of our region is to provide a safe and supportive environment for all learners. To do this, intensifying advocacy campaigns is just among the strategies to inform the field to strengthen programs on the use of technology that will foster a positive and inclusive school culture where every learner feels respected, valued, and protected. In relation thereto, this Region joins the observance of Proclamation No. 417 which aims to raise awareness and promote responsible internet use to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the digital age.

The first initiative on such awareness is “Safer Internet Day” which was introduced in 2004 to various countries in Europe. Currently, it is being observed by more than 100 countries in the world to raise awareness of online issues faced by children. In the Philippines, the enactment of Republic Act No. 11930 also known as “Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act”, and Republic Act No. 7610, otherwise known as “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination”, have provided precepts of a safer internet for all learners in the country.
